Kandisha (2020)

As much as we here in America like to think that we have a corner on the urban legend market, there are myriad urban legends all over the world and the French flick Kandisha (2020) shines a light on one Americans likely know nothing about. Summer break is a time for teens to be teens and let their hair down, and teen girlfriends Amélie (Mathilde Lamusse), Bintou (Suzy Bemba), and Morjana (Samarcande Saadi) are no different, spending their lazy days doing nothing and staying up late at night scaring one another with haunting tales of supposed urban legends. One night, Amélie doesn't show up for their nightly scare session and when Bintou and Morjana find her, they are horrified to hear that she was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. Remembering one of the urban legends of an ancient demon known as Kandisha (Mériem Sarolie) who will set upon those who commit violent acts against women. In a moment of desperation, Amélie decides to see if she can indeed summon Kandisha and when she successfully does call the spirit to life, it turns out that the spirit isn't quite as easy to control as the urban legend led her believe. With the vengeful spirit now in the real world and seemingly killing people indiscriminately, it's up to these wily teens to get things under control. We, on the other hand, aren't quite ready to put the genie back in the bottle as the sexy title character played by Mériem Sarolie bares her breasts while getting ready to seduce and destroy a dude! Hey man, if you gotta go, there are worse ways to go!
