Joan Marie Larkingot her first guitar at 13, moved from the suburbs of Philadelphia to Maryland to West Covina, California, changed her name to Joan Jett, and founded the seminal all-female rock/punk band, The Runaways at 16. After singer/bassist Micki Steele left (and eventually joined The Bangles), Joan, Jackie Fox, Lita Ford, and Cherie Currie would tour as the opening act for bands like Cheap Trick, The Ramones, Van Halen, and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, and would become known for their hit single “Cherry Bomb.” The Runaways disbanded in 1979 and the dark-haired hottie went on to pursue a solo career, eventually forming The Blackhearts who scored a major hit with a cover of UK band Arrows’ “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll”. The well known animal rights activist also recorded successful covers of Tommy James And The Shondell’s “Crimson and Clover” and Gary Glitter’s “Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)”, as well as her original single “Bad Reputation.” In 1988, Joan and the band released their sixth studio album "Up Your Alley," with the angsty single “I Hate Myself For Loving You”, which would peak at Number 8 on the Billboard music chart, while the video for the song featured Joan and the band performing on-stage. The only one more excited than the crowd is the Godmother of Punk herself, who’s perky nips are seen trying to bust out of a skintight leather tank.
