“Remember my name! FAME!” Unlike the next line in the song, this momentary hit series did not go on to live forever, nor did it learn how to fly. A rock’n’roll high school set in the early 80’s, Fame followed the lives of a group of kids enrolled in the New York City High School for the Arts. Cue much dancing, much romancing, some Breakfast Club-styled angst, and lots of panty hamsters. The film it was based on won two Oscars. The series that followed won three Golden Globes and a couple of Emmys. The costume designers won no awards and now work in a Value Village outside Butte, Montana where they can share tips on how to make neon legwarmers work with flares. “You've got big dreams? You want fame? Well, fame costs. And right here is where you start paying. With sweat. Now fold those plaid slacks and hand me the price-tag gun.”
