High school can be hell for an idealistic teacher who cares enough to reach out to the kids. In Class of 1984 (1982), Perry King stars as a sensitive music teacher whose only desire is to elevate the hooligans stalking the campus where he works. Set in Los Angeles, though filmed in Toronto, 1984 is an over-the-top exercise in delinquent juvenile excess. King’s starry-eyed pedagogue falls afoul of a gang of vengeful punk rockers who seem to resent his musical tastes as much as they do their outlandish costuming. When King’s outreach efforts are harshly rebuffed, he sets about killing the kids one by one, each in an increasingly sensational manner.
