Michael Keaton stars as Riggan, the titular Birdman (2014) in this award winning black comedy. He’s a washed up actor famous for portraying a silver screen superhero, but now he wants to revive his career through the theater production of a Raymond Carver short story. His costars Lesley (Naomi Watts) and Laura (Andrea Riseborough) are easy to work with, but when one of the male actors is unable to perform, Lesley’s boyfriend Mike Shiner (Edward Norton) comes in to take over the open role. That’s when everything starts to fall apart, Mike starts drinking during rehearsals, demanding rewrites, the production starts to take a toll on Riggan, sending him hurtling towards an existential crisis.
It’s a tough life for Michael Keaton, but much tougher for us to see so many beautiful actresses in one film, and not get any nudity. The best scenes involve Emma Stone in short shorts and ripped nylons, Naomi Watts in her bra at the 19-minute mark, and Andrea Riseborough laying a liplock on Naomi Watts 48-minutes in. We want to see more from these birds, man!
