The connections between a single mom, her lover, and her neighbor are revealed in the elliptical neo-noir Bastards (2013). The onus is on the viewer to put together the pieces in this ambiguous mystery from Claire Denis, but this much is clear: Raphaëlle (Chiara Mastroianni) is a single mother and the mistress of wealthy businessman Edouard Laporte (Michel Subor). Then Raphaëlle takes a liking to her new neighbor, Marco (Vincent Lindon), who's in the process of selling all of his possessions. But Marco's actions may be motivated by something more sinister than thriftiness...Yeah, Bastards is a real head-scratcher, especially considering that Lola Créton saunters down the street wearing nothing 3 minutes in and Chiara shows us her boobs at the 47-minute mark and bush 10 minutes later. Bastards is spill-legitimate!
