The surprise isn't that the original Austin Powers (1997) spawned a followup; the wonder is that it took most of two years to whelp out The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999). Austin Powers mastermind Mike Myers is no fool. The genius mixer of laughter and lust knew that he must raise the sensual stakes of Shagged if he hoped to avoid post-climactic depression. He wisely augmented the libido charisma of darkly erotic Elizabeth Hurley with a trio of torrid blondes, Heather Graham, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, and Kristen Johnston. Though not necessarily disporting in their natural hair color, these high-profile pretties fit perfectly into the Myers master plan of comic titillation.
