The Top 10 Most Paused Nude Movie Moments

If you love MrSkin.com, odds are you have given your pause button a workout over the years while watching movies. And we’re not talking about getting up to get more to drink, we mean those moments you could really enjoy when you were the only one awake in the house and you could really do a deep dive into that one scene... you know the one. The three-boobed lady in Total Recall, Phoebe Cates climbing out of the pool in Fast Times, or Heather Graham’s Roller Girl cuing up “Brand New Key,” you watched—and watched and rewatched—some of these moments more times than you’d care to count! The pause button was a friend to many a horny teenager, or a horny adult for that matter, and was there before Mr. Skin existed to give us confirmation of what we thought we just saw! Let’s hit pause one more time on these ten terrific scenes that rank as the most paused in SKINema history!

Mr. Skin's Take

A whole generation of men knew they saw something when they saw one particular scene in Mike Nichols’ Oscar winning 1967 bitterly black comedy The Graduate. They know they saw a boob. It may not have been Anne Bancroft’s boob, but there was definitely a boob. Having been released long before the advent of home video, it wouldn’t be until the 80s that men with a skilled finger on the pause button would be able to verify what they saw in that fleeting moment that Dustin Hoffman’s Benajmin Braddock sees when Mrs. Robinson tries to seduce him! And we were right, by the way, it wasn’t Anne Bancroft’s boob. Doesn’t make it any less a boob, though, that’s for sure!

As the only director with two films on this list, Dutch provocateur Paul Verhoeven knew his films would play better at home on video than they ever could in theaters. If you ask someone, "Tell me two things about Total Recall," guaranteed one of those two things will be Lycia Naff’s three-boobed lady in the bar on Mars. Arnold’s character Quaid may turn down Lycia’s offer to show him a good time, but her prosthetic breasts gave our pause button a workout. VHS quality and our old tube TVs were just bad enough to make them look convincing and an iconic moment was born!

Mr. Skin's Take

Oscar season 1994 brought an unexpected wild card into the Best Actor race with Paul Newman’s performance in this unassuming little dramedy from the Oscar winning director of Kramer vs. Kramer. Newman is ever the cad in this funny slice of life flick and it’s fun to see him flash that old fashioned charm again. Speaking of flashing, Melanie Griffith flashes her fun bags for Newman in a scene that scarred generations of moms and grandmas watching this movie to see Newman do his thing. Thankfully the pause button was there so that, later that night when everyone was asleep, we could do our thing!

When John Landis’ mismatched buddy comedy Trading Places was released in the summer of 1983, it wasn’t the comedic chemistry between stars Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy that got everyone talking. No, it was the stunning nude debut of Jamie Lee Curtis, the chick from Halloween and Prom Night finally went topless—twice!—contributing at least a little something to this film’s mammoth box office haul. The film’s VHS release also helped the film and this scene achieve legendary status, as the fleeting nude scenes from Jamie Lee could now be savored thanks to the pause button!

Mr. Skin's Take

John Landis was a comedy blockbuster machine in his heyday and his first major hit came with 1978’s Animal House, the first feature film to brandish the National Lampoon branding. In a film chock full of nudity, the first nudie scene comes 39 minutes in when John Belushi's Bluto uses a ladder to spy on the girls' dormitory. He happens upon the room of Mandy Pepperidge (Mary Louise Weller), who not ten minutes earlier had branded Bluto a "P.I.G. pig," and gets his revenge by peeping on her undressing and starting to touch herself. Thankfully this one's a relatively long flash of nudity, so even those who weren't quick to hit the pause button could still manage!

Not long after going her separate ways with Bruce Springsteen the year prior, Joyce Hyser gave us the ultimate break-up treat in 1985’s Just One of the Guys! Joyce spends most of the movie pretending to be a guy, but at prom, she wants to finally let the sweet guy Rick, played by Clayton Rohner, know that she’s not only not a woman, but she’s got a thing for him. It’s at this moment that she unleashes her secret weapon and flashes her breasts! We had our pause button fingers at the ready to finally savor the taste of what The Boss himself had been enjoying for the last several years!

Mr. Skin's Take

If the song “Brand New Key” ever comes on the radio or pops up in a commercial, we’d bet dollars to donuts it’ll bring your mind right back to this very scene in this very movie. The DVD pause button got one of its first major tests thanks to Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 Nashville of the porn industry weaves together a tapestry of unforgettable characters, none more so than Heather Graham’s Roller Girl. As the perfect combination of unattainable and totally cool, Graham does us the courtesy of whipping off her clothes a mere 25 minutes into this two and a half hour flick. Heather really did fast forward to the good part!

tracking issues in a generation of VHS tapes! Phoebe Cates seemed to be leaving most of the nudity in this 1982 comedy classic to co-star Jennifer Jason Leigh, but thankfully Judge Reinhold’s masturbatory fantasy gives us the opportunity to watch Phoebe pop out of the pool... and her bikini top! It’s a moment replayed to death in many a household where a male sexual awakening was occurring, and frankly we wouldn’t be having this discussion right now on MrSkin.com if this moment didn’t exist!

Mr. Skin's Take

In this pivotal scene just prior to the one hour mark in 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Margot Robbie walked out of the room as that girl from About Time and Pan Am, and walked back into the film stark naked and a fully formed movie star. It’s almost impossible to remember a time when Margot wasn’t a superstar, thanks in no small part to her star making nude debut in Martin Scorsese’s ode to excess. And yes, we all paused during the security camera scene and saw that she clearly had on flesh colored panties. This right here is the scene we then went back and paused to over and over again! And judging by what we’re seeing in the scene, a star is not only born, she’s shorn!

Mr. Skin's Take

If you’re noticing a trend, many of these moments birthed a star on screen, and our most paused moment in history is no exception! Sharon Stone had been on the periphery for years, landing big roles in films that kind of went nowhere, when Paul Verhoeven first gave her a big break with... Total Recall. Remembering her to be a true professional, willing to do anything for a role, he opened her up to a whole new audience with Basic Instinct just two years later. The film was an enormous hit, the ninth highest grossing film of 1992, but on home video it became a phenomenon. Every single VHS copy of Basic Instinct was paused at that exact moment at least once, we guarantee it.
