Which is better: the remake or the original? While a lot of us might be sticklers for whatever version of the film we first fell in love with, I'm here to use my objective nudity-loving eye to weigh in on which version of these five films is sexier. These are remakes that are actually sexier than the original:
5. Vanilla Sky
Did you know that Vanilla Sky is a remake? Director Cameron Crowe remade the 1997 film Open Your Eyes with one of the stars of the original film, Penelope Cruz. If Penelope is in your movie, then it is bound to be sexy, so kudos to Cameron Crowe for knowing that and using her again.
Vanilla Sky stars Tom Cruise as a wealthy guy who survives a car accident with his angry ex at the wheel (Cameron Diaz). He survives, horribly scarred (Tom Cruise horribly scarred? Okay, Hollywood) and trying to get back into his groove (thanks to plastic surgery) with a brand new babe...while thinking he is being haunted by his ex.
The original film is Spanish, so you might expect top-notch nudity. Penelope plays the same role in both films, so you can really compare the two. The 1997 film is even better because of the primo shots of her pair. That being said! The original might be sexier because both A-listers Cameron AND Penelope go nude. The more the merrier, I say!
4. Scarface
Brian De Palma directed the Al Pacino version of Scarface that takes us on Tony Montana's journey, but real fans know that the original Scarface is one of the great pre-code classics. The 1932 version slipped in right before the Hays Code brought the hammer down on movie fun.
The Howard Hawks original faced controversy for "glorifying violence" and having a criminal be a sympathetic character. The following year the Hays Code would come in and make sure we didn't see movies like that again for decades.
Brian De Palma modernized the film, focusing on a Cuban drug lord in Florida. Because he is a rich gangster who is surrounded by cocaine, he is also surrounded by beautiful girls. Sue Bowser and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio both show skin to make the 1980s Scarface the better version (even if the script is a little bit hokey - just my opinion!).
3. Suspiria
I absolutely love the original Suspiria. It is a colorful, campy class about a dancer at a prestigious dance academy that appears to be run by witches. Dario Argento's Italian classic gives us pokies from its 70s starlets, but that's about it. The remake is waaaay hotter.
The original is tame compared to the 2018 version that has A LOT of nudity in it. So many of the extras in the movie are nude as they do dance-like rituals. Star Dakota Johnson is stunning when she shows her ass and when she wears a see-through robe.
2. The Fly
Did you know that The Fly is a remake of a cheap creature feature decades earlier? David Cronenberg's film is based on the Kurt Neimann original (there was also a 1959 sequel). The original The Fly has virtually no nudity, but it has a famous ending ("heeeelp meeee". The 1958 film has the same plot as the 1986 version, but 1986's version focuses a lot more on the process of changing that scientist goes through.
1986's version is known for being a lot more grotesque and being one of the great classics in body horror. Plus, the babes show their bodies a bit, too. Joy Boushel is sexy in this remake as is Geena Davis with some gorgeous sideboob.
For years A Star is Born was practically known for being a doomed remake. There are to date 4 versions of A Star is Born and they were almost all critically panned. Janet Gaynor starred in the 1937 version, Judy Garland starred in the 1954 film, both of which had no nudity (damn those decency laws!). The 1976 version came very close to being the hottest one when Barbra Streisand briefly showed her breasts. Marta Heflin helped out with her topless swim scene.
As I said, most of these movies are a marvel because they were critically panned, but they were box office hits. Except for the most recent A Star is Born! That could be because the leading lady, Lady Gaga, goes nude. Gaga is totally naked in the bathtub when she stands full frontal. It looks like a Star is Shorn!
