Adapted from the 2012 collection of essays of the same name, Kathryn Hahn plays a version of the author Cheryl Strayed, an advice columnist who became famous by sharing her personal stories of abuse and addiction within the column. This is the same Cheryl Strayed that Reese Witherspoon portrayed in the 2014 movie Wild, only instead of hiking, we see Kathryn as an almost 50 year old Clare Pierce, navigating her rocky second marriage to Danny (Quentin Blair) and the raising of their teenager named Rae (Tanzyn Crawford), when she’s asked by a friend to take over a blog called Dear Sugar. We also see her younger self (Sarah Pidgeon) throughout flashbacks of drinking, drugs, and many sexual escapades while also getting to see Rae explore her sexuality with her friend Montana (Aneasa Yacoub). All the scenes are filmed without much nudity, which is a bummer because these four babes are the beautiful things we really want see!
