Review

Renowned playwright Tom Stoppard adapted this John Le Carre novel about a British alcoholic book publisher named Barley Blair (Sean Connery). Before Barley can receive a smuggled manuscript from a Russian woman named Katya, its intercepted by British Intelligence. Though he insists he’s never met her, he’s interrogated until he agrees to go to Moscow to see her in person while wearing a wire, as the manuscript’s author turns out to be a Soviet physicist with firsthand knowledge about Russia’s nuclear capabilities. But Katya is the exquisite Michelle Pfeiffer, so of course he falls in love with her, which obviously complicates things. There’s nothing complicated about the tease we get seeing the marvelous Michelle in the shower though. Being turned on by this timeless beauty is always easy as pie (or Russian pirogis in this case).
