SXSW has recently ended and it included an array of horror movies that critics and audiences haven't stopped talking about. Horror is always a crowd-pleasing genre. People love it or love to hate it! At Mr. Skin, we really love horror because it has traditionally been a great avenue for leading women. So many actresses have tried their hands at being Scream Queens, including this year's top actresses in scary movies.
Hunter Schafer
The Euphoria star is coming out of her TV shell by starring in the bizarre new horror movie Cuckoo. Creepy name, right? Written and directed by Tilman Singer, the film follows Hunter as a teenage girl who moves to a German resort with her parents.
She has to leave America and go to the Alps where her father takes a job, but things seem stranger than Hunter thought they'd be. Noises, visions, and secrets come to light in this gory movie that Hunter fearlessly leads!
Samara Weaving
The Aussie actress wowed us all in Ready or Not where the Margot Robbie-lookalike got bloody in her wedding gown. Her latest blood-filled feature is Azrael which is a strange film featuring another hunt and a sacrifice.
A zealous community of women hunt down a young lady in order to sacrifice her to the ancient demons in the wilderness that they must appease. Azrael, however, is determined to find freedom...and revenge. Those are things that we've already seen Samara Weaving do well!
Sydney Sweeney
Sydney Sweeney's nun horror film Immaculate was highly anticipated at the festival and beyond. I cannot wait to see this good girl go bad! She plays a devout nun named Cecilia who is sent to an idyllic convent in the Italian countryside. when she arrives, she learns that the place is not the convent that she thought it would be and the nuns who run the place are keeping dangerous secrets.
Will Sydney Sweeney become a sexy, naked nun? Will this be more Little Hours or The Devils naked nunnery? Only time will tell! No matter what happens, I am sure the big-eyed bombshell will look Immaculate.
As a side note, I don't know if Sydney Sweeney is getting enough credit for how versatile she is. Unlike other hot blondes who came before her, she was never pigeon-holed in squeaky-clean roles or romantic comedies or sex-crazed erotic thrillers. In fact, she's done all of it. From critically acclaimed TV shows such as The White Lotus to leading the romantic comedy revival in Anyone But You, Sydney is proving that there's nothing she can't do.
