Staff Picks: Godard Films

Our Staff Picks column takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version of Staff Picks has a decidedly skintillating angle, as we suss out which films from a particular subgenre are the best to find great nudity. This week let's cover Godard's films.

If you did not hear the sad news yesterday, director Jean-Luc Godard passed away on September 13th at the age of 91. This visionary French director is considered one of the foremost groundbreaking directors of modern cinema - specifically French cinema and more specifically than that French New Wave cinema. His style was filled with colors, jump-cuts, and beautiful women-inspired filmmakers for decades to come.

Some of his films included nudity from these beautiful babes, too. Let's check out the gorgeous women in some of Godard's best films.

Contempt

Jean-Luc Godard's greatest masterpiece may just be this sexy 60s film which literally opens on starlet Brigitte Bardot's butt. Now that's how you get an audience's attention: start with the ass of the most beautiful woman in France and tell your story from there.

The plot follows a screenwriter (who is married to Bardot in the movie) trying to work with Fritz Lang (the REAL Fritz Lang) on a new film. The marriage becomes difficult after his wife spends more and more time with the film's producer. The movie explores the relationships between art, business, and personal lives which are common themes that the typically political Godard would return to again and again.

A Married Woman

In 1964, Jean-Luc Godard told this story about a bored housewife who starts an affair with a man outside of her marriage. This middle-class woman struggles with keeping up appearances with her husband and home and exploring her wild side with her lover. Macha Meril is our leading lady whose black-and-white boobs keep us engaged.

The plot thickens when she becomes pregnant and the married woman has more decisions to make - and feels more confused than ever! You will not feel confused over her body, bloomers, and all.

Passion

Who knows Passion like the French? They practically invented the feeling! Godard proved that he had passion and plenty of it in this cerebral drama from 1982. In this film, a director with big dreams shoots a made-for-TV movie that is lacking, well, passion. The set, however, is filled with drama and infuses life into this film about finding one's passion and excitement through love, sex, art, and everything in between.

Hail Mary

He was never a stranger to controversy, so Jean-Luc Godard stirred things up in the mid-80s once again with his modern retelling of the birth of Jesus. A woman, Mary, is pregnant and her cabbie boyfriend is not happy. What could be the problem? Apparently, devout believers did not like the portrayal of Mary as a rough-and-tumble woman. Myriem Roussel played her and went nude doing it as Mary who works at the gas station and loves basketball.

Myriem appeared to be Godard's new muse in the 80s as this was not her first rodeo with Jean-Luc. Once again, he loves a beautiful woman and he knows how to cast them. We'd all say a prayer to her after seeing her fully nude body!

She isn't the only naked babe in the movie. Anne Gautier shows off some seriously holy hooters in her full-frontal shot.
