Our Staff Picks column takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version of Staff Picks has a decidedly skintillating angle, as we suss out which films from a particular subgenre are the best to find great nudity. This week let's cover one of the absolute BEST regions in filmmaking: Eastern Europe.
Eastern Europe is a huge region. I don't think people realize how many countries are in Eastern Europe. The region consists of countries such as Ukraine, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, Croatia, Estonia, Serbia, Moldova, Albania, Russia, Hungary, Bosnia, Latvia, and even more. While some of those countries are known for their film movements such as the Czech New Wave, a lot of them get ignored by film buffs which is a shame because there is some great nudity in these films.
Sniper: The White Raven
The Sniper films are a fun look into modern Ukrainian filmmaking. This film is inspired by a true story about a math teacher in Ukraine who lived a simple life until Russia invaded in 2022. His pregnant girlfriend is killed which transforms him from a quiet pacifist to a hardcore fighter. This is an inspiring film for Ukrainians and it is SKINspiring to check out Maryna Koshkina's mams.
Kaymak
This is an ultra-Eastern European movie as it was a joint production between several Eastern Block countries. This is a really fun and sexy flick, so it's no wonder so many people wanted to collaborate on this amazing film. The movie takes place in North Macedonia where two couples live in the same apartment complex. Kamka Tocinovski plays a banker who lives with her husband and Simona Spirovska plays a baker.
These women who make different incomes work very hard. They work SO hard that they have trouble taking time to get intimate with their husbands. That problem gets fixed when a third person is introduced to each couple. Sara Kimoska is one of those babes who comes to them from a poor village to be their surrogate sex partner.
The other couple gets Ana Stojanovska who spices things up in the bedroom for the baker and her husband, but the baker has a sexual awakening and would rather be with Ana than her husband. Will it be a twosome or a threesome? You have to watch to find out!
Valerie and Her Week of Wonders
Let's go back to the 1970s when Czech New Wave films made huge waves in international cinema. This trippy flick is based on a novel from the 30s, but the novel couldn't describe the sexy wonders in this film. A woman goes on a journey to lose her virginity and goes on an epic journey to do just that. In the meantime, her fantastical trip gives her run-ins with everyone from a priest to a vampire!
Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn
This 2022 Romanian film became pretty popular on the internet for its audacious sex scenes. Plus, it's a genuinely good movie! The film follows a history teacher making a sex tape with her husband, but the hubby uploads the sex tape to a fetish website aaaaaand that's when the trouble begins.Whoops!
Katia Pascariu is the teacher who gets in trouble, but it's good trouble because she is HOT. One parent is on her side, but that parent is a nudist played by Oana Maria Zaharia.
Daisies
Let's end with a favorite! This film is a staple of 60s Czech films. Vera Chytilovà's most famous film is an absurdist comedy about two young women played by Jitka Cerhova and Ivana Karbanova who are bored with their lives. They thus go on a spree behaving as badly as possible which involves dates with men, food fights, lounging around in their bathing suits, and a lot more!
There is only a little bit of nudity in the film, but the girls are gorgeous the entire time. They hang out in their skivvies and in their bathing suits are just generally delightful.
