The Internet Movie Database lists “Biologist,” “Trapeze Artist,” and “Semen” as the plot keywords for the feisty Spanish comedy Semen: Una Historia de Amor (2005). It’s enough info to tantalize prospective viewers, and once co-directors Daniela Fejerman and Inés París get your feet in the door, they’ll hold your attention till the last shot. Their screwball comedy involves a macho hospital worker (Ernesto Alterio) who falls helplessly in love with a female trapeze artist (Leticia Dolera) who shows up at his workplace to be artificially inseminated. The randy medical assistant manages to finagle his sperm sample into the mix, and voila—Ariadna (Dolera) is soon carrying his baby. Unbeknownst to Serafin (Alterio), however, the pregnancy is merely a favor for Ariadna’s infertile sister. Luckily the hospital attendant lands on his feet by seducing the dashing Dolera into letting him perform some non-artificial insemination in scenes that reveal the Barcelona-born beauty in full bloom.
