The backstage machinations at a German textiles factory are laid bare in the high-fasion drama Samt und Seide (Velvet and Silk)(2000-2005). As the series begins, the Friedrich Althofer textile company has fallen on hard times due to an inability to keep up with the times. Then economics grad student Florian Unger (Michael von Au) is sent in to help save the company from bankruptcy. Along with fresh-faced fashion designer Lena Czerni (Christina Rainer) and company heir Cornelia Althofer (Elisabeth Lanz), Florian is able to save the company, but that's just the beginning of his problems. Because while he eventually marries Cornelia, he just can't shake his love for Lena. Fashion trends may come and go, but a rack like Elisabeth's, which she bares in the bath, will never go out of style.
