Everywhere we turn there are remakes of old classics these days, so we wanted to compare remakes and originals. Not from a critical perspective, necessarily, but from a skintastic one. Which film had the better nude scenes? Our firstcomparison might seem mild when it comes to nudity, but its nude scenes were actually incredibly important to the history of onscreen nudity and sex. We're going to look at the two different versions of the horror classic Psycho. This will keep you busy in the shower for sure!

Remake or Original: Psycho

Remake or Original: Psycho

Psycho (1960) might seem like nothing to bat an eye at today when it comes to nudity, but its sexy scenes with star Janet Leigh were actually exceptionally boundary-pushing. Janet plays Marion Crane, the troubled protagonist who meets an untimely end in the first act of the film. This was one of the first films to completely break the horrible Hayes Code, defying censors by showing an unmarried couple in bed together, presumably post-coitus. Janet wears her bra in the opening of the film which was simply not done in 1960.

Janet once again gets down to her skivvies when she undresses at the Bates Motel while Norman watches through a peephole. Again, this suggestive scene was a boundary pusher much like the opening of the movie because it showed chesty Janet's bra, but what came next would absolutely change cinema.

The shower scene! This shower scene - despite its brutality - ended up paving the way for film shower scenes to come. Nothing had shown quite as much as this scene had before. Yes, the shots are very closeup and famously Hitchcock used 78 setups and 52 cuts to make up THE most famous shower scene in movie history. He made it look damn fine, too, adding some of Janet's sideboob and lean stomach.

Psycho famously had a Gus Van Sant remake in 1998 that starred Anne Heche doing her best to look a lot like Janet Leigh. This remake often gets critical flack for being a shot-for-shot remake, but here at Mr. Skin, we have a lot of appreciation for it. Due to relaxed censorship, Van Sant was able to show a little more boob in his shots than Hitchcock could.

While most of the movie seems identical - except, obviously, for being in color - the 1998 version shows slightly more skin. When Norman spies on Marion Crane in the 1998 version, she actually undresses before his eyes and reveals sideboob. This is definitely more skintillating than the original even if boobs on film were old hat by 1998. But is it truly better? We ask you: do you prefer the original or the remake? Which is sexier?
