Review

Once a Thief is a Canadian action series produced by Hong Kong maestro John Woo (who also directed the promising pilot episode). Sadly the series itself couldn’t live up to those credentials and thus disappeared rather quickly after its initial twenty-two episodes. Once a Thief opens in Hong Kong with Mac (Ivan Sergei) and Li Ann (Sandrine Holt), professional thieves and lovers raised by their powerful underworld stepfather (Robert Ito). When they try to escape from him in order to live a regular life, Mac and Li Ann get separated. Not knowing what became of his girlfriend, Mac ends up in a secret Vancouver prison trying to decide whether to stay there or become a member of the director’s (Jennifer Dale) special forces unit. As soon as he finds out that Li Ann (who thought Mac was dead) and her new fiancée Victor (Nicholas Lea) belong to this unit as well, Mac agrees to work with them. Nudity Report: The adorable Sandrine Holt provides some decent cleavage in the pilot, but for the real goodies try to get your hands on Black Robe in which she is naked for almost the entirety of the film. In addition, Holt’s Once a Thief co-stars Jennifer Dale and Vicky Pratt scored skinful credits in flicks like Stone Cold Dead and Whatever it Takes.
