Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop (2023)

As part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop comes this documentary series about the groundbreaking women who’s struggles, influence, and amazing contributions shaped the male-dominated genre and became pioneers due to their tenacious artistry. Filled with interviews of hip hop stars both old and new talking about their experiences, journalists and experts addressing societal issues, plus archival footage not just showing the performers themselves but how they affected trends and popular culture. Fashion has always been a big part of hip-hop but it has always been the women who have taken to the next level, and as with everything, some artists’ styles are more scandalous than others, such as Lil’ Kim’s infamous pasty at the MTV Video Music Awards (you know, the one that caused Diana Ross to fondle Kim’s bouncin’ booby on stage). Speaking of bouncin’, we also get lots of twerking good footage of hip hop hotties like Saweetie, Latto, and Doja Cat and more in bootylicious bikini tops and cheeky bottoms.
