Apparently the Brits had old summer getaway resorts not unlike those we Yanks had here in the Catskills, and it’s at one of these ‘holiday camps’ (called Maplins) that Hi-de-hi! takes place. It’s comedy of the decidedly broad variety (a style at which the English obviously excel), though the colorful collection of oddball characters were usually good for a few laughs. It ran for 58 episodes beginning in 1980 and is fondly remembered by those ancient few old enough to remember it.
