The fledgling Fox network wasn’t about to take any major chances during its first few years. The Simpsons and Married…with Children were the flagship series, though there were a few lesser-known shows that also helped the new network to stake its claim on Sunday nights. Duet was the familiar and simplistic, yet still generally entertaining, sitcom about a pair of young lovers. That’s basically it: guy (writer), girl (caterer), relationship gags, sexual innuendoes, goofy friends popping by all the time. Matthew Laurance and Mary Page Keller struck a surprisingly winning chemistry for such a generic series. Ran only three seasons, but deserves a historical footnote of some sort.
