Critics' Choice Movie Awards (1996-2023)

Though considered a strong lead up to and indicator of success at The Academy Awards, this honor from the American-Canadian Critics Choice Association was first bestowed in 1995 and the ceremony only began being broadcast in 2001. Like other award shows, it’s a hub of high glamor and fashion from its celebrity attendees, one of the most notable red carpet appearances being actress and singer Janelle Monae’s see through dress at the 28th Critic’s Choice Ceremony. That year she was nominated for her role in the 2022 comedy Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and won as a part of Best Acting Ensemble. She also picked up the seventh annual SeeHer Award, which recognizes a woman who embodies the values set forth by the movement to advocate for accurate portrayals of women in media. While her powerful speech celebrated her non-binary, queer identity, Skin fans watching basked in the glory of her perfectly formed pair and naughty nips peeking through the sheer black gown.
