John Masius, creator of both Providence and Touched by an Angel, put this pilot together for NBC in 2001, yet the concept was quickly dropped. Viewers will never know if Chestnut Hill could have been embraced but my bet was on a whole lot of soppy soap opera stuff. (The reported synopsis involved grandparents being compelled to house their grandkids after a family tragedy.) Actors who could now sign contracts elsewhere thanks to the show’s demise include Tom Skerritt, Mary McDonnell and Patrick Dempsey.
