Review

The Mexican AppleTV series Acapulco debuted on the streaming service in the fall of 2021 and is a simultaneous continuation of and prequel to the hit comedy How to Be a Latin Lover (2016). Eugenio Derbez reprises his role as Maximo, who recounts the audience with the tale of the summer of 1984 when he was hired to work at the hottest resort in the titular Mexican city. Played as a teenager by Enrique Arrizon, Maximo is thrilled when he thinks he's landed his dream job, finding himself surrounded by the biggest movers and shakers in Mexico—not to mention the hottest and richest women in the country—but the job turns out to be much more of a nightmare than a dream come true. Over the course of one summer, Maximo learns that rich people don't view the help at a resort like this as anything more than errand boys, and also gets a crash course in elite hotel upselling, a practice which tests his mettle as a salesman. Thankfully he is taken under the wing of a veteran hotel waiter who tries to mold young Maximo into the ultimate resort employee, setting him on a path for success in life and love. Sadly the series doesn't have anything in the way of nudity, which is a real shame since the premise certainly presents multiple opportunities to get some skin in the game. Thankfully there are lots of bikini clad babes, like Eliana Jones, who give us plenty of eye candy, even if it's not exactly the kind of eye candy we were hoping for!
