The cult classic comedy Real Genius (1985) must've seemed like a sure thing when it was made. Director Martha Coolidge was hot off of Valley Girl (1983) while leading man Val Kilmer was on his way to the top following his film debut in Top Secret! (1984). The film's plot involves the CIA working in conjunction with Jerry Hathaway (William Atherton), a professor at the fictional Pacific Technical University, to develop a secret space laser. Hathaway then exploits his super smart students including new teenage whiz kid Mitch Taylor (Gabriel Jarrett) by having them unknowingly working on the project. One student who refuses to conform to the university's standards, however, is Chris Knight (Kilmer), a brilliant but perpetually distracted student who, once he catches on to the professor's evil scheme, eventually makes him regret having ever tried to exploit him in the first place! The film is full of quotable lines and memorable set pieces (including turning the professor's house into a giant popcorn popper), but sadly there's no nudity here. The closest we get is when Lynda Wiesmeier and several of her friends from a local beauty school stop by to party in their bikinis!
