Écoute voir... (1979)

One of France’s leading screen sirens gets ample opportunity to demonstrate her signature eroticism in the witty mystery film Écoute voir... (1979). Catherine Deneuve trades in the madness of Repulsion (1965) and the naughtiness of Belle de Jour (1967) to play a cool-as-ice detective akin to Philip Marlowe. As she hits the streets of Paris to solve head-scratching crimes with style, Claude Alphand (Deneuve) ends up getting ruffled in the presence of the supple young Chloé (Anne Parillaud), who coaxes her into exploring her Sapphic wild side. Both actresses look radiant as they explore the other’s contours in respective states of near undress.
