How sad it is that brainless sitcoms too numerous to mention get renewed year after year while a painfully clever and witty series like Undeclared gets the boot after only sixteen episodes. Sharp writing, winning performances (from a cast of virtual unknowns), and an overall oddball charm shone through in every single episode, yet the college comedy didn’t find a fan base quickly enough and Fox prematurely pulled the plug. Nearly all of Undeclared’s actors, writers, and directors have since gone on to bigger projects, which only goes to show the raw talent that was on display here. Most sitcoms canceled in their inaugural season deserve such a fate; such was clearly not the case here. Hopefully the few episodes will find their way onto DVD sometime in the future.
