The musical takes place during the Jazz Age in Berlin when the Weimar Republic was briefly in power. Before the Nazi takeover, nightlife and hedonism were celebrated in Berlin.
The musical takes place at the jazzy Kit Kat Klub where an American writer and an English cabaret fall for one another while a German Emcee keeps us all up-to-date on the goings on in Germany. It's one of those glittery, jazzy musicals with a lot more to say under the jazz-handed surface.
Delevingne may be new to theater, but she is not new to acting. The tall, lanky lesbian model has actually done quite well for herself as an actress. She has starred in Anna Karenina, Only Murders in the Building, Tulip Fever, and Carnival Row which had some truly skinspiring nudity from the young lady.
Delevingne is truly excited about her venture into live performance. She even said: “There are no words to explain the excitement I have to return home to make my stage debut in such an iconic role. I am so inspired by the brilliant actors who have played Sally in past productions around the world and in this one in the West End. I cannot wait to be a part of this brilliant cast and production.”
I am glad that she brought up the past performers who have taken on the role of Sally Bowles because that is a lineage to be proud of. Prior to Cara taking the role was played on the West End by Jessie Buckley who has also gone nude. This might be that kind of role.
