Georgina Spelvin (born Shelley Bob Graham) did arguably the best acting ever in a hardcore movie. Such a statement perhaps doesn't sound like much in the way of praise to anyone who has not yet exulted in her performance as Justine Jones, a suicidal spinster in Gerard Damiano's masterpiece The Devil in Miss Jones (1972). Georgina deserved an Academy Award nomination for her tortured, frantic portrayal of a voluptuary doing everything humanly possible to overcome being damned to an eternity of sexual frustration. The spellbinding Ms. Spelvin went on to a long adult film career, but she didn't start out that way. Believe it or not, Georgina made her screen debut alongside Catherine Deneuve in The Twilight Girls...in 1957! And she got topless! This was the heyday of the Hays Code in Hollywood, so France was one of the only places where Georgina could sow her wild oats on screen. As restrictions loosened in her home country, gorgeous Georgina got naked in Joel M. Reed's Career Bed (1969), helping to launch the Golden Age of Porn era in which she thrived. Some of her other credits from this time are I Spit on Your Corpse! (1974), Tarz & Jane, Cheetah & Boy (1976), Honky Tonk Nights (1978), and Babylon Pink (1979). She eventually made her way into mainstream fare--Police Academy (1984), Dream On, The Lost World, and the like--and even dipped back into the porn bath with Still Insatiable (1999). But nothing has ever dimmed the eternal flame ignited by The Devil in Miss Jones.
