Bless this House

One of the great British comedy staples of the early 70’s, Bless This House was Sid James’ meal ticket in between Carry On movies but somewhat ironically it’s far more critically lauded than any movie he’s ever churned out. The concept is simple – Sid is a married man with two teenage kids. He’s a bit of a drinker, a bit of a gambler, up for a little of anything going, but his wife (Diana Coupland) knows all of his habits and tricks. His kids meanwhile, they have tricks and traits of their own. Sally (Sally Gleeson) is a bit of awright, totally desirable but a total daddy’s girl when it suits her, while Mike (Robin Stewart) is a man about town, down with the hippy lifestyle and always throwing the leg over some bit of crumpet. Always fun, even when it’s obvious, the show ran for six seasons before giving it a rest, only to be revived in 1995.
