New York writer Melvin (Jack Nicholson) is known for his big mouth and ability to be a bigoted, obsessive-compulsive crackpot in As Good as It Gets (1997). Languishing his days away squirming over germs alone in his apartment, he gets his only kicks by heckling Nancy-boy neighbor Simon (Greg Kinnear) and fawning over curvy Carol (Helen Hunt), the only waitress who will tolerate his temper in favor of hefty tips. Melvin's madcap existence evolves when he's coaxed into caring for Simon's pint-sized pooch while Simon is hospitalized and his favorite sexy server leaves to nurse her sickly son. Overjoyed with caring for the canine, he decides to help Carol and her kid by footing the hospital bills. Will the misanthropic Melvin's newfound puppy love for life and humanity lead to happiness and makin' bacon with the dish of his dreams?
