In 2020 Paste Magazine tried to figure out what film deserved to be deemed the first slasher flick ever made. Their answer ended up being Torso (1972), an Italian giallo film directed by Sergio Martino and beloved by both Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino. Since it set the standard for the genre, the plot might not be all that unfamiliar to modern audiences. Essentially, there's a masked, psychotic strangler killing women on a college campus. Dani (Tina Aumont) thinks she was a witness to one of the killings, so her uncle gives her the keys to his remote country house to hide out in while the killer is on the loose. To keep herself from getting bored, she brings along a ton of her sexy co-ed buddies, including Conchita Airoldi, Patrizia Adiutori, Carla Brait, and Angela Covello. Obviously, the killer tracks them down and starts offing them one by one, while they also start doing some sexual exploration among each other. There's a final girl and a killer reveal, but also a ton of killer nudity! Serisouly, the gals in this giallo movie are amazing! Yes, setting the precedent that slasher flicks should also be flasher flicks, tons of lovely ladies get naked in this one. Conchita Airoldi is at a dance club when she lights up a cigarette, unbuttons her shirt and lets a dude play with her big boobs. We'd pay any cover if girls like that weren't covered up! The ebony goddess Carla Brait spends her time at the remote villa by getting lezzy with Angela Covello, both in the bedroom and while skinny dipping and sunbathing naked outside. There's even a quick shot of Rosaria della Femmina showing her very feminine, xl funbags as a high priced prostitute. American slashers are known for their nudity, but Italian stuff like Torso, even more so!
