Number 3:Linnea Quigley
Ask a horror fan to name a Scream Queen, and the first name that automatically comes up, without fail, is Linnea Quigley.
She came from Davenport, Iowa, and debuted nude in the wild mockumentary Auditions, followed by a stand-out turn as Sleeping Beauty in the not-for-kiddies softcore romp Fairy Tales.
After that, Linnea stripped for the fright flick Stone Cold Dead, and in 1981 alone she appeared in the buff in Don’t Go Near the Park, Graduation Day, and Psycho From Texas. From there, a Scream Queen Supreme was born naked.
In the wake of the cult faves Savage Streets and Silent Night, Deadly Night, Linnea drew the most vivid before-and-after line in horror hottie history as Trash, the punk-rock pixie who peels down to her bare body in a graveyard in Return of the Living Dead.
Linnea then ignited second half of the 1980s in a searing succession of hair-raising hits: Creepozoids, Nightmare Sisters, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, Dr. Alien, Night of the Demons, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Witchtrap, and Deadly Embrace.
Fittingly, she kicked off the next decade with Linnea Quigley’s Horror Workout, and from there lit up Scream Queen Hot Tub Party, Pumpkinhead II, Jack-O, Mari-Cookie and the Killer Tarantula, and Death Mask.
Along the way, this topless titan of terror starred in some noteworthy non-horror films, including Still Smokin’, Sexbomb, Vice Academy, Assault of the Party Nerds, Virgin High, Heavy Petting Detective and, of course, Vice Academy 2.
Linnea’s most recent naked appearance took place in the 2001 shocker Kannibal and, while we’ll always hope for more, if Miss Quigley allows her Scream Queen record to stand as is, she will still reign as one of the most skinportant figures in skinema history.
The fact that, in real life, Linnea regularly bedded down with Screw magazine publisher Al Goldstein only adds to her allure: this is woman who’s at her best while naked in the company of monsters.
