I Blame Society... don't we all, girlfriend? I Blame Society (2020) is a comedy film from all the way down under—aka New Zealand—sprung from the twisted mind of director, co-writer, and star Gillian Wallace Horvat. This prolific young filmmaker brings us this sordid tale of an aspiring filmmaker named Gillian who notices a pattern when prepping to shoot her latest film. Essentially, she determines that making a film is a lot like plotting a murder, and if she applied the exact same principles she now bases her filmmaking process on to the plotting and execution of a murder, she could conceivably pull off the perfect crime. While the rational person in the same situation would likely never go through with a Dexter-esque applying of one masterful set of skills to the task of committing a perfect murder, Gillian proves highly irrational in this regard. Ultimately the entire thing is a metaphor for art imitating life, reflected back upon itself in a post-modern way, and then deep-fried in the vengeful murderous woman exploitation low budget vibe of the late 1960s and 70s, itself viewed through the current feminist perspective, with a healthy dose of new media innovation. If that sounds appealing, the film is quite appealing in that regard. The gorgeous Gillian Wallace Horvat shows off her perfect pair twice in the film, both times in murderous sexcapades. We also get a glimpse of bush as she wears a skirt with no underwear while shaving her leg, going far enough to cut herself! Frankly we think Gillian is Horvat and a bag of chips!
