Made at the very tail end of Cannon Pictures' big budget glory days, Firewalker (1986) comes to us from two Cannon regulars: star Chuck Norris and director J. Lee Thompson! Norris and Oscar winner Louis Gossett, Jr. star as Max and Leo, two treasure hunters who rarely—if ever—return from their adventures with any actual treasure. This doesn't stop a psychic by the name of Patricia (Melody Anderson) from enlisting their services to help her find the legendary treasure of a Native American legend known as "Firewalker." Enlisting the help of a local Native American known as Tall Eagle (Will Sampson), the trio sets out to find these fabled stockpiles of gold, while another local known as El Coyote (Sonny Landham) is hot on their trail in an attempt to steal the gold out from under them, Belloq style! The genre mashup is obviously inspired by several films like Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) meets Romancing the Stone (1984) crossed with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and was Norris' first foray into the world of action comedy—though a great deal of the humor is unintentional, which is typical of Cannon Films at the time. The movie was shot in June 1986 and hit theaters in time for Thanksgiving that same year, which should also tell you something about its quality. Going in with a healthy understanding of all of this is the only way to appreciate the flick, which features plenty of non-nude sexiness from co-star Melody Anderson, who spends a lot of the film in a tank top sans bra!
