Fever Dream (2021)

Based on the book of the same name by Argentine author Samanta Schweblin—who co-wrote the screenplay with director Claudia Llosa—Fever Dream (2021) is a Chilean horror film that debuted on Netflix just in time for Halloween 2021! María Valverde (Madrid 1987, Guernica) stars as Amanda, an affluent woman who has just arrived in a vacation town for the summer with her young daughter Nina (Guillermina Sorribes Liotta) in tow while her workaholic husband Marco (Guillermo Pfening) has stayed behind at their home. Soon she meets her beautiful neighbor Carola (Dolores Fonzi) and her teenage son David (Emilio Vodanovich), though Carola confesses to Amanda that David hasn't been her actual son since an accident several years ago had caused his soul to leave his body, leaving behind this personality devoid shell of a son. As strange occurrences begin happening all around her, Amanda soon becomes paranoid that her daughter Nina might fall victim to the same strange affliction that hit David around the same age. At the same time, she must also decide if Carola is even trustworthy and isn't just a local crazy person filling the naive tourist's head with fantastical stories!
