Fanny Lye Deliver'd (2019)

British director Thomas Clay exploded onto the scene in the mid-aughts with his controversial and thought-provoking films The Great Ecstasy of Robert Carmichael (2005) and Soi Cowboy (2008) before taking an over decade-long hiatus. He roared back at the end of 2019, however, with his latest provocation Fanny Lye Deliver'd (2019)! Set on an isolated farm in the days of Oliver Cromwell's reign—that's the mid-17th Century for you non-history buffs—the film centers around a the titular housewife Fanny Lye (Maxine Peake) living a life of solitude and repression with her tyrannical husband John (Charles Dance). Unable to express herself, read, or do anything that might better her as a person, her fortunes are changed under the strangest of circumstances. One evening Thomas (Freddie Fox) and Rebecca (Tanya Reynolds of Sex Education) turn up at the couple's doorstep naked and beaten half to death, begging for help. It turns out it was all a ruse and that the couple is part of a sexually progressive, anti-Puritan group seeking to liberate sex starved women from the oppressions of their Puritanical husbands. Thomas and Rebecca put on quite a show for their captive audience of two, with Tanya Reynolds baring her breasts when her male companion tears open her top! Things to a skincredible turn soon after, though, when Tanya strips fully nude and begins making out with Maxine Peake! Soon Freddie gets in on the action, putting his erect penis (it's a prosthetic) into Maxine's hand while she makes out with Tanya, leading her captive husband to freak out and something to awaken within Fanny Lye that lie dormant for years!
