FX's Atlanta was created, produced, directed, and written by Donald Glover (also known as Childish Gambino in the music world) - who also stars as the main character, Earnest Marks. It's hard to pull off a great show when one man is occupying so many roles, but Donald does it, telling the story of a young Ivy League dropout with all sorts of drive and ambition looking for a way to improve both his and his kid's lives. Opportunity comes knocking when Earnest's cousin Alfred (Bryan Tyree Henry) scores a local rap hit under his stage name Paper Boi, and Earnest convinces his cuz to let him be his manager. That might be the basic plotline, but this one cites Twin Peaks among its inspirations, so there's all sorts of strange stuff from an episode where Donald plays a ghoulish looking, bleach skinned, mentally disturbed man named Teddy Perkins, to an episode where a character owns an invisible car, all the way to Justin Bieber showing up in an episode, only in this world Justin's inexplicably black. Critics loved the show, which was often lauded for having an all black writer's room and for its willingness to discuss topics like Critical Race Theory, reparations, racial profiling, Juneteenth, and the overall experience of growing up black in America. But since the show takes place in Hotlanta, there are plenty of Southern hotties you'd love to put your Mason Dicks-in! Early on the show's run, Ashley John lies in bed in nothing but a pair of lace underwear that let us see her tramp stamp. Walnette Marie Santiago has some incredible cleavage in an episode where she wears a tight tank top. Diane Kirby is a stripper working the stage in a thong, while Mone't Chandler is a waitress at the club wearing a tight top. Beyond that, there's really just some tight abs from Ava Grey. The dirty South's never been so disappointingly clean. This one won a Golden Globe in 2017, but suffered from some long production breaks including a full four year hiatus between seasons two and three. Wrapping up in 2022, Atlanta was truly a groundbreaking show, even if it didn't do much showing.
