Animal Control (2023)

It’s a workplace sitcom created by writer Bob Fisher (Wedding Crashers) and producers Rob Greenberg (How I Met Your Mother) and Dan Sterling (The Office) about - you guessed it - animal control officers. Joel McHale is Frank Shaw, a former cop who was fired when he discovered corruption within the department, now working for animal control and newly paired up with Michael Rowland’s Fred aka ‘Shred’ Taylor, a new hire who was once a competitive snowboarder but tore his ACL before he could compete in the Olympics. They work alongside the team of Amit (Ravi Patel) and Victoria (Grace Palmer), an exhausted family man and a free-living party girl, respectively, while their boss Emily (Vella Lovell) is an awkward people pleaser who they genuinely like but also manipulate into buying fancy appliances for the office like panini presses and espresso machines. It’s very reminiscent of Fisher’s series Sirens about EMTs, in that it’s a combo of the teams going on random calls mixed with glimpses into their office/personal lives. In the series second episode, Vella as Emily accidentally eats chocolate laced with hallucinogenics that Victoria confiscated on a call involving a rampaging fluffle of drug-fueled bunnies and eventually is found running through a park in her underwear. What’s not to Lovell about that?
