Nigerian-American comedienne and actress Yvonne Orji has been cracking us up since she made her onscreen debut as Njideka in the TV series Love That Girl! in 2011. Having worked her way through the New York City comedy scene, she’s best known for her role as Molly Carter in in the HBO series Insecure from 2016-2020, starring Issa Rae. For her acting efforts, she garnered four supporting actress nominations from NAACP Image Awards, three noms from Black Reel Awards for Television with one win, and one nomination in 2020 for a Primetime Emmy Award. She’s also appeared in multiple sets of lacy and racy lingerie in the show, and for those efforts, she definitely wins a big, fat reward from Mr. Skin. Before that, you could find Yvonne as Stacy in two episodes of Jane the Virgin in 2017, and as Maya in the movie Night School (2018) with Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish. Post Insecure, she wrote, produced, and starred in her own HBO comedy special, Yvonne Orji: Momma, I Made It (2020), directed by the excellent Chris Robinson, who’s done over 120 music videos for everyone from Mandy Moore to Prince, Alicia Keys to 50 Cent, and Eminem to Nicki Minaj. And, she played Agent Rosetti in the quirky, head-exploding film Spontaneous (2020) with Katherine Langford. Oh, and she also wrote a book in 2020, titled Bamboozled by Jesus: How God Tricked Me into the Life of My Dreams, in which she refers to God as a Sovereign Prankster, punking folks like Ashton Kutcher did, but long before he ever thought to do it.
