Merkins Are Just Wigs For Your Private Parts

Movies are filled with magic, that is why we love them so much. We can see dinosaurs, spaceships fighting in space, and even a realistic looking Keanu Reeves. But there are some parts of movie magic that I have to admit I don’t like, and the biggest ones of all are merkins.

Well, I guess I shouldn’t say I don’t like them; they just make me a little sad. For example on this latest episode of the HBO show Vinyl,we got to see a fully nude Olivia Wilde. When it happened, I was beyond thrilled, but what took me over the edge was seeing a full bush on Olivia Wilde. Apparently that wasn’t her bush, no it was a merkin. And here I was thinking Olivia Wilde was really getting into character by growing her bush out. In a recent interview with Refinery 29 wig-maker Amanda Miller talked about the time she had to make a merkin for the pilot episode of Boardwalk Empire. Her experience was rather interesting, especially when it came to Martin Scorsese's reaction:

“It was too full, and we had to cut it down a bit... It was just too much hair.”

In case you are curious about the backstory of merkin making or how they are applied, then head over to Refinery 29 and read the full interview with Amanda Miller.
