It has been nearly 10 years since Harmony Korine's wild film Spring Breakers was released. Can you believe that? The movie has become a cult classic, especially with zillennials. Let's talk about Spring Breakers' impact and where the sexy stars are now.
In one of the earliest A24 movies, Harmony Korine teamed up with James Franco to make a movie for the Girls Gone Wild era. James plays a drug dealer in Florida and a white dude who wears grills. It's disturbing and strange and it gets weirder when he convinces some college girls who are trying to go on spring break to work for him to get money.
Basically, the babes immediately get arrested for doing drugs in Florida. James' character - whose name is Alien in the movie - bails the babes out and has them start working for him. Things get weird and they get weird pretty fast! The movie became a surprise hit on the festival circuit in 2013 and that is partially due to the film's young stars. The movie stars a bevy of child stars grown up in their first adult role. It was shocking. It was sexy. And it had an impact.
So who was in the movie? Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Harmony's real-life wife Rachel Korine. The doe-eyed Rachel has been married to the trouble-making director since 2007 and they are still going strong. Spring Breakers was a surprise hit, but looking back after a decade its success is not that surprising. The film starred some of the most beautiful up-and-coming stars of the day who have all continued to do great work.
