Staff Picks: Real Gay Biopics

Our Staff Picks column takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version of Staff Picks has a decidedly skintillating angle, as we suss out which films from a particular subgenre are the best to find great nudity. This week let's cover one of the absolute BEST genres in moviemaking: biopics about lesbians.

There are so many biopics to enjoy in Hollywood, but these are some biopics that showcase gay and bisexual women. From history to art to entertainment, these are films that feature hot women being hot with other women. It's part of their biography!

Bessie

This HBO original movie from 2015 stars Queen Latifah, a lesbian in real life, as LGBTQ blues singer Bessie Smith. She had relationships with men and women and both are explored in this film, as is her relationship with alcohol. She had struggles with gin and struggles with her girlfriend Ma Rainey, played by Mo'Nique.

The film also has a sexy scene between the Queen and Tika Sumpter only a few minutes in. Tika slips a nip as the pair press up against one another. There is no nudity in the sex scenes, but there is nudity when Queen Latifah sits nude in front of the mirror. No need to sing the blues about that scene. It's time to sing some praises!

Gia

Here is a HOT biopic about a lesbian supermodel who was one of America's first supermodels! The lesbian icon was caught up in addiction, loss, and a hot affair with her makeup artist. Angelina Jolie (a bisexual babe in real life) plays the troubled model Gia Carangi. She died from AIDs when she was only 26 years old.

In the film, Angelina Jolie poses nude in front of Elizabeth Miller who poses nude on the other side of a fence. Another woman snaps photos of Jolie acting like a caged animal up until Elizabeth comes up to her from the other side and shoves some fingers in Jolie's mouth for her to suck on. That looks delicious!

Queen Christina

Let's go way back to pre-code Hollywood for this one. Queer actress Greta Garbo stars as the real Swedish Queen Christina in a movie about her life. There is no nudity in this 1933 film, but there is the first lesbian kiss in cinema history! That is something worth pointing out this Pride Month. Garbo smooches her lady-in-waiting played by Elizabeth Young while she wears androgynous clothing herself.

Frida

While Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was madly in love with her adulterous husband Diego, she was also bisexual. She matched his nonstop drive for sex by eventually procuring several lovers of her own. She famously had a long affair with Leon Trotsky which infuriated Diego. Diego, however, didn't mind his wife's lesbian affairs - of which she had many!

She was rumored to have had dalliances with painter fellow Georgia O'Keefe, actress Dolores Del Rio, singer Chavela Vargas, photographer Tina Modatti, and jazz-age starlet Josephine Baker. Frida certainly was busy! In the movie Frida, she frees her nipples while in bed with a Parisian singer. Was this meant to be Josephine Baker? Who knows! The movie barely scratches the surface of her sapphic sexcapades, but this is a good scene:
