Roxane Mesquida hails from the baguette-raising, beret-twirling land of France, a country that likes its women hot and undressed onscreen as much as possible. She started her career innocently enough in Marie Baie des Anges (1997) and quickly lost that innocence in The School of Flesh (1998). Although she remained clothed throughout, the film undoubtedly convinced her to take on a more daring part. That came with the role as the elder sister at the center of a summertime love affair in Catherine Breillat's controversial À ma soeur! (2001), or Fat Girl. But that's fat as in PHAT: Pretty Hot And Tempting. Although the film lacked the "punch," so to speak, of her more controversial picture Romance (1999), it still managed to put all of Roxane's goody-goods on full display and featured some fairly explicit sex. No, there wasn't any penetration shown, but the mood was right. In any respect, the part led to another Breillat film for the sultry young actress, Sex is Comedy (2002). While it didn't make us want to slap our funny bone, we did slap another bone. Now Roxane is jumping the pond for a role as a bitchy princess on the CW series Gossip Girl.
