Evelina Fernández is a Los Angeles native who always knew she wanted to act. After studying at Cal State, Evelina found her niche in Chicano theater. On stage, she got her start in Zoot Suit as Della, the female lead, at the Mark Taper Forum. She later toured nationally and internationally with El Teatro de la Esperanza and went on to perform at the New York Shakespeare Festival and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Evelina even founded the Latino Theater Company. But here at Mr. Skin, we're most interested in the work that's preserved on film for repeated viewing. On the big and small screens, Evelina scored roles in shows like Hill Street Blues (1987), Aaron's Way (1988), Knots Landing (1990), and Roseanne (1988) as Juanita Herrera. She had a sexy and memorable role in Luminarias (1999), but we saw her in American Me (1992) during a dimly lit sex scene that shows shadowy forms from our leading Latina. Some of Evelina's more recent clothed credits include the drama series Judging Amy (1999), the Mexican comedy series The Brothers Garcia (2002), the crime show NCIS: Los Angeles (2013), the thriller Go For Sisters (2013), and the Roseanne spin-off The Connors (2020). We'd love to see even more from the gorgeous Evelina, and we hope she gets inspired once again. Until then, we'll revisit that scene in American Me and press pause over and over again. And then at night, when we lay our heads down on our pillows, we're guaranteed to dream-a of Evelina!
