Critics and audiences all over the world are talking about the new sexy film Benedetta that features a saucy affair between two nuns in renaissance-era Italy. If that doesn't sound sexy to you, then keep reading. There's more where that came from!

Headlines for the film talk about its "sex, sin and sacrilege" (that's an NBC news headline specifically) and are calling it the raciest film of 2021. Paul Verhoeven directs this film and it appears that he loves boobs as much as we do. Paul has given the world some truly great films from RoboCop to Elle. And, yes, he did direct Showgirls. It's probably that piece of trivia that made me the most excited to see Benedetta. This guy knows nudity! Surely, he will pull out all of the stops as these nuns pull off their habits!

Since the movie was only just released in limited theaters in the United States, we do not yet have ALL of the scenes. We do have enough to keep us interested, however. In the trailer alone we see naked showers, nuns making out, and oral sex. That's just in the trailer! Watch the trailer here and you will see what I'm talking about:

The plot follows an Italian nun in the 1600s who becomes involved with another woman. This lesbian affair is scandalous, but not as scandalous as her intense religious visions that disrupt daily life at her convent. The story is based on a non-fiction book called Immodest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy which tells a story of a lesbian nun.

Benedetta is our main character who lives in a convent in Tuscany. She is played by Virginie Elfra and her lover Bartolemea is played by Daphne Patakia. The two of them start sapphic sacrilegious fun. Between her visions of Jesus and her lesbian affair, she causes a lot of trouble in her convent!

According to a review by Drew Gregory on Astrosaddle, a lesbian website, the scenes aren't good enough. "We get gentle goodnight kisses, boobs groped through sheer curtains, some vague fingering and grinding, and yes, as promised, a dildo made out of a Virgin Mary statue. But while all this is fine, I couldn’t help feeling underwhelmed by the scandal. Twenty-six years after Showgirls, Verhoeven’s style of straight camp just doesn’t have the same power. I wish Benedetta had more worth protesting."

Hey, that's an interesting take. Although that Virgin Mary dildo does sound like a lot to me. If you've seen the film, you certainly have your opinions. Mine is that the movie is pretty sexy, even if it's not explicitly lesbian-enough!
