There is some exciting and sexciting news about a hot new erotic drama coming to all of us soon. Audrey Diwan is directing Emmanuelle starring Noemie Merlant and allegedly Neon is interested in US distribution rights. Audrey Diwan has previously directed Losing It and the nudity-filled film Happening. This is going to be her third feature film and it's a skintastic choice.
We originally heard word that Lea Seydoux was going to take on Emmanuelle which was also exciting news. That casting was originally announced at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, but there has been a casting change since then. We do not know exactly why Lea was replaced by Noemie, but Noemie has pulled ahead as a powerful actress to watch - especially after her supporting role in Tár.
But Lea would have been a great choice as well! Who would you prefer: Lea or Noemie? Both of these actresses are French. Both of them have gone nude before and are definitely going to go nude again. And both of them are talented. Honestly, I think it is an equal swap!
Noemie has done a ton of exciting nudity in the past. From going ass-to-ass in Curiosa to showing her trimmed bush in several other projects and acting in the award-winning and critically acclaimed lesbian drama Portrait of a Lady on Fire. We have seen a resurrection of the erotic thriller, so why not a resurrection of the erotic drama in the form of the hot Emmanuelle movies?
Emmanuelle was first adapted in 1974 and it was based on the provocative 1967 novel by the same name. The novel was written by a married couple who wrote a series of erotic fantasies helmed by a character they created named Emmanuelle. The novel made people hot and horny around the globe! By 1974, the film starring Sylvia Kristel was highly anticipated and it delivered on hotness. This was actually Columbia Pictures' very first x-rated release - although an R version was later cut.
That was not the end of Emmanuelle! Emmanuelle became a franchise, swapping out actresses to star Laura Gemser as the TITular Emmanuelle. However, they removed an M and just called her Emanuelle in order to get around copyright issues. The 70s sequels were produced by Italian production companies and starred Indonesian seductress Laura Gemser in just about every single possible nude position you can imagine.
We are so excited for this film. Audrey Diwan and Noemie Merlant are a dream team that will make us all cream. They will not disappoint! And who knows? Perhaps this will launch another decade of sequels just like the first one did!
