Review

Based on Terry McMillan's novel of the same name, Waiting to Exhale (1995) is one hale of a tale featuring some of Hollywood's finest tail. The story follows four best buds—white-hot Whitney Houston, oh-la-la Lela Rochon, divine Loretta Devine, and, last but never least, Angela Bassett and her fantastic assets—as they navigate the choppy seas of love. Angela is a moneybags who gave up her career to raise her family, but now her husband is packing his bags and heading for the altar with a white lady. Salon owner Loretta is raising her teener and keeping things together when neighbor Gregory Hines sweeps her off her feet. Meanwhile, lovely Lela and tip-top TV producer Whitney both think they've found the greatest love of all . . . but neither of their men seem ready to leave their wives. All of this plus a soundtrack by Babyface! But if you're holding your breath hoping to see some breasts, Waiting to Exhale will leave you blue in the face (and maybe another place)—while this bunch will take your breath away, they don't take off their shirts. We're waiting, ladies!
