There was a whole bunch of messages that went through Franco's Spain back during the Spanish Civil War, primarily "Everyone in Franco's Spain gets bread" or "For the Homeland, the Bread, and For Justice..."  So everyone got bread, but anyone who spoke up got bread and then a bullet in the back of their head for being a "separatist" or "red".  For the trigger happy fascist soldier Rogelio (Karra Elejaide), there is nothing he wouldn't do for party and Franco's Spain, and regularly takes out suspected separatists and executes them.  One day, he takes a father and son out to a field and shoots them both in the back of the head, but he doesn't notice the small boy who witnesses the event hiding in the tree line not far off.  When he returns to the scene of the murders, he sees the young lad standing where they buried the bodies, planting a small fig tree...  With just one look from the young boy, he realizes the error of his ways and that he killed this boy's father and decides the only way to remedy his old wrong ways is to look after this small fig tree until the boy comes of age.  So Rogelio sets up a tent and becomes a legit hermit in the woods to care for this tree to make amends and after years and years, becomes a bit of a cult figure.  It's a dark comedic take on atonement set at the end of the Spanish Civil War and many years beyond.  The hermit ends up getting plenty of support, including a groupie in the stunning and sexy form of Ylenia Baglietto, who flirts heavily with him by stripping down and teasing him in his tent when he is trying to abstain from sexual activity.  We get to see her amazing left honker in the process!
