A go-go dancer cavorts through a hazy hall of mirrors in Succubus (1968), one of cult hero Jesus Franco’s most uncompromising and bizarrely off-the-wall experiments. Largely plotless, the horror-sexploitation feature stars Janine Reynaud as topless dancer Lorna Green, an alluring beauty who’s unexpectedly thrust into a soft-focus dream world where nothing is as it seems. Midgets, drag queens, and acidheads populate Franco’s surrealist tapestry, which swings from kitsch to spine-tingling terror at the drop of a pill. The best compass is undoubtedly Reynaud’s bod, which she relentlessly redirects at Franco’s bidding.
